Openings

We regularly have openings for research interns at the Visual Intelligence Lab (VILab), including:

PhD Research Interns / Visiting Students

Remote or In-Person

Ideal for students aiming to apply for a PhD and wanting to build a strong research record.

Master's Research Interns

Project-Based

Project-based research with the goal of producing a workshop/conference submission or a solid technical report.

Undergraduate Research Interns / Co-op Students

Hands-On

Hands-on experience on real research problems; strong interns often continue into longer-term projects.

Typical Internship Focus Areas

  • Computer vision & deep learning (training pipelines, evaluation, ablations)
  • 3D vision / reconstruction / generation
  • Biometrics (face / gait / person ReID), open-set recognition
  • Generative AI (diffusion models), DeepFake detection / AI forensics
  • Dataset curation, benchmarking, and building reliable research codebases

What to Expect

  • Intern projects are publication-oriented when feasible (or can target an open-source release / technical report depending on scope and timeline).
  • Interns are expected to provide weekly progress updates and maintain clean, reproducible code.
  • Paid vs. unpaid: opportunities vary by funding and project needs. Some intern roles may be unpaid, especially for short-term or exploratory projects.

How to Apply

Email fl397@drexel.edu with:

  • CV
  • Your current program/school and expected timeline (e.g., Summer 2026, 10–12 weeks)
  • 1–2 paragraphs describing your interests + relevant experience
  • (Recommended) GitHub / paper / project portfolio link

What We Offer

  • Weekly mentoring and structured guidance (regular 1:1 meetings + group meetings)
  • Research freedom with clear expectations (you lead; I help shape and sharpen)
  • Strong emphasis on publishing in top venues (CVPR/ICCV/ECCV/NeurIPS/ICML/ICLR, T-PAMI/T-BIOM/T-IFS, etc.)
  • Support for career development (internships, networking, collaboration, fellowships/awards)
  • GPU/compute support: access to lab/university GPU resources for training and large-scale experimentation (subject to project needs and resource availability)

What We Look For

You don't need to have everything below, but you should show clear potential in several areas:

  • Research potential: prior research experience, strong curiosity, ability to read papers critically
  • Programming ability: solid Python + deep learning frameworks; good engineering habits are a big plus
  • Self-motivation: able to drive experiments and iterate without constant prompting
  • Reliability: consistent progress, good communication, and meeting deadlines
  • Persistence: willingness to debug, rethink assumptions, and try alternatives when things fail
